Vision Allianz opens

The German-based Fraunhofer organisation has opened an office to co-ordinate activities in the field of vision of some of the Institutes within the organisation. The central office of the Fraunhofer "Vision Allianz" opened in November 1997 under the guidance of Dr Norbert Bauer, and is located at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits at Erlangen. No less than 16 of the 47 Institutes of the organisation currently have activities relevant to vision, and it will be the role of the "Allianz Vision" to act as a one-stop shop for industry seeking help in applying vision technology, to prevent duplication of effort between the various Institutes, and to encourage transfer of know-how between the various Institutes and their areas of activity.

The central office of the Allianz acts as a technology broker, putting prospective clients in touch with the most appropriate of the Institutes concerned with vision for the needs (and budget) of the enquirer. At the Hannover Messe in April many of the individual Institutes showed their recent developments under the umbrella of the Allianz Vision.
