Abstract

The value of synthetic lubricants for industrial purposes is, at present, confined to special duties for two reasons, their high cost is usually prohibitive for use if conventional grades will meet the bill and their properties are not generally suitable for any but special jobs. An interesting paper recently presented before the Society of Automobile Engineers at Tulsa by W. A. Zisman of the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, reviewed the work done with synthetic lubricants and discussed the engineering possibilities for the future.
