New modular handling system

New modular handling system

Keywords: Handling, Motion, Linear systems

The new linear motion modules from Werner are designed to be freely combined enabling dedicated multi-axes handling systems to be created simply and quickly. Available in the UK from R.A. Rodriguez, these modules offer high loading capacity, high rigidity, quiet operation and are complemented by a wide choice of motors, plug-in positioning system and controller (Plate 8).

Three basic modules have been introduced. All are made from extruded aluminium section with high torsional strength and driven by a wide, wire reinforced toothed belt. The design ensures that the guiding profile is protected against extemal forces.

Module 160/15 is a double width version of the 80/15. Both comprise a static axis body with moving carriages and are rated for speeds up to 5 m/s. They have integrated guide rails with lifetime lubrication and inductive limit switches into the axis extrusion that are wired to a common plug; an additional reference switch is available on request.

The motor on these modules is mounted either directly or via a transmission belt. For maximum flexibility, a standard choice of servo motor or two phase stepper motor is available to suit the application; specials may also be fitted. There is a choice of six different mounting variants and four transmission ratios. These can be altered to suit any application changes.

Module 90/15 has a static motor drive with moving axis body. This compact system has an inside profile bar guide and integrated planetary gear and is designed for speeds up to 3 m/s. A rotational axis with a maximum angle of 440° may be specified as an option.
