Abstract

The sign of P3=M02M22M02 [Mrs=rM(E2)s] has been determined by observing interference between one-step and two-step amplitudes for α-particle excitation of the second 2+ states of Pt194 and Os192. The sign of P3 predicted by Kumar and Baranger is found to be correct for Os192 but incorrect for Pt194.
