Abstract

The strong decays of charm-strange baryons up to N=2 shell are studied in a chiral quark model. The theoretical predictions for the well-determined charm-strange baryons, Ξc*(2645), Ξc(2790), and Ξc(2815), are in good agreement with the experimental data. This model is also extended to analyze the strong decays of the other newly observed charm-strange baryons Ξc(2930), Ξc(2980), Ξc(3055), Ξc(3080), and Ξc(3123). Our predictions are given as follows: (i) Ξc(2930) might be the first orbital (1P) excitation of Ξc with JP=1/2 and favors the |ΞcPλ21/2 or |ΞcPλ41/2 state. (ii) Ξc(2980) might correspond to two overlapping 1P excitations of Ξc. The broader resonance with a mass m2.98GeV observed in the Λc+K¯π final state is most likely to be the |ΞcPρ21/2 state, while the narrower resonance with a mass m2.97GeV observed in the Ξc*(2645)π channel is most likely to be the |ΞcPρ23/2 state. (iii) Ξc(3080) could be classified as the |ΞcSρρ1/2+, i.e., the first radial (2S) excitation of Ξc. (iv) Ξc(3055) is most likely to be the second orbital (1D) excitation of Ξc with JP=3/2+ and favors the |ΞcDλλ23/2+ state. (v) Ξc(3123) might be assigned to the |ΞcDλλ43/2+, |ΞcDλλ45/2+, or |ΞcDρρ25/2+ state. As a byproduct, we calculate the strong decays of the bottom baryons Σb±, Σb*±, and Ξb*, which are in good agreement with the recent observations as well.
