Abstract

As an aftermath of the debate between Voloshin and Kuang and Yan since 1986, we now have a fairly clear picture of the type of experiments in the cc¯ and bb¯ heavy-quarkonium systems (most of them accessible in the near future) which will give definitive guidance to theory. They include measurements of the rate ϒ(3S)ϒ(1P11)ππ and Γ(ψ(1P11)pp¯)B(ψ(1P11)Jψππ)B(Jψe+e), Γ(ϒ(1D)ϒ(1S)ππ), Γ(ψ(1D)Jψππ), and at some future date a measurement of Γ(ψ(1P11)γηc. If the Lipkin-Tuan model does have significance for heavy-quarkonium dipion mass spectra, measurement of the spectra in ϒ(3S)ϒ(1S,2S)ππ, ψ(1D,2S)Jψππ [and ultimately ϒ(3S)ϒ(1P11)ππ mass spectrum] as well as the rate for ψ(1D)Jψππ shall be quite revealing.
