Abstract

We report on new measurements of the Σ+ and Σ lifetimes, the Σ+ nonleptonic-decay branching ratio, and the ratio of the Σ+ decay asymmetry parameters α+α0. The final results obtained are τ+=(0.798±0.005)×1010 sec, τ=(1.480±0.014)×1010 sec, R=Γ(Σ+pπ0)Γ(Σ+all)=0.5172±0.0036, and α+α0=0.073±0.021. These results together with the world average for α0 are used to perform a test of the |ΔI|=12 rule.
