Abstract
Large single crystals of bcc Cs were grown and were used to study the lattice dynamics of this metal by coherent inelastic neutron scattering. The phonon dispersion curves were measured, at 280 K, along the [ξ00], [ξξ0], and [ξξξ] symmetry directions. The measured frequencies are in good agreement with pseudopotential calculations that include only a cubic anharmonic term. The data were used to evaluate the elastic constants, the phonon density of states, and the lattice specific heat of bcc Cs.
