Abstract

X-ray absorption spectra of intermediate-valent CePd3 compared with those of "trivalent" γCe and CeCu2Si2 taken at high signal-to-noise ratio by using synchrotron radiation reveal the presence of 4f0, 4f1, and 4f2 configurations in the final state. 4f2 final-state amplitudes are observed also in γCe and CeCu2Si2 with formally 4f1 initial-state configurations.
