Abstract

A chiral-invariant effective Lagrangean is constructed from pions and the low-mass measons. Soliton solutions of this Lagrangean are investigated. These are used to predict properties of baryons. The agreement with experiment is quite satisfactory in spite of very limited freedom in the choice of the parameter values. This gives strong support to the idea that qualitatively and even semiquantitatively baryon physics can be deduced from meson physics via solitons.
