Abstract

To assess the accuracy of simplified methods for the treatment of ion dynamics in Stark-broadening theory, we have compared two such methods, the relaxation theory and model microfield method, against benchmark calculations for the CVI Hα line. It is shown that both methods show poor agreement at low densities.
