Abstract

In this paper we generalize the Garvey-Kelson mass relations and investigate their deviations from experimental data. We observe a few interesting odd-even staggerings exhibited in these mass relations. Such odd-even staggerings reflect subtle features of neutron-proton interactions. Consideration of these staggerings improves the accuracy of mass relations. A Taylor expansion of nuclear masses provides us with a clue to construct new mass relations.
