Abstract

The quadrupole antishielding factors γ for the ions Na+, Mg2+, and Cl have been calculated by solving differential equations in nonorthogonal Hartree-Fock perturbation theory. The results are compared with the values of γ obtained in other calculations. The agreement in all the cases except γ(3pp) of Cl is quite satisfactory. It is believed that the discrepancy in the latter case is perhaps due to the different zero-order wave function used in the present calculation.
