Abstract

SUMMARY: The mode of action of actinonin, a pseudo-peptide antibiotic has been investigated. When added to cultures of 7198 and 3610 actinonin inhibits growth. Evidence is presented which shows that this inhibition of growth reflects a bacteriostatic rather than bactericidal effect and that the site of action of the antibiotic is associated with RNA synthesis.
