Abstract
We report a generation of Brillouin-Raman fiber laser (BRFL) which operating at 1558 nm wavelength. The proposed configuration utilizes a nonlinear gain medium of 7.7 km long dispersion compensating fiber (DCF) and using thulium holmium-doped fiber (THDF) as a fiber saturable absorber (SA). The self-started Q-switching operation starts at 569 mW pump power and keep stable until 721 mW pump level. The stable repetition rate of 22 kHz and pulse width of 1.791 µs are obtained with a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 32 dB. This work shows the fiber SA can be used promisingly in a BRFL for pulse laser generation.
