The authors would like to correct the following errors that were made in the published article.
The sentence 'In a process ... the user model' in section 3 on page 6 was incorrectly edited, and should correctly read: 'In a process later also described by Hincks et al (2017), the stimuli were initially selected at random with no other purpose than to populate the user model.'
Similarly, the list of recommendations given throughout section 4.9 contains a total of 8 elements. The last element, labelled (i) in the published paper, should thus correctly be labelled (h).
In section 1 on page 2, the sentence 'So-called passive ... to a computer' should correctly read: 'So-called passive BCI systems (Zander and Kothe 2011, Krol et al 2018) target such naturally-occurring mental states in order to provide implicit input to a computer (Schmidt 2000, Zander et al 2014).'
In section 4.1 on page 7, the sentence 'In the previous ... form reinforcement learning' should correctly read: 'In the previous section, Lorenz et al (2016) and Mladenovic et al (2019) used Bayesian inference and optimisation (Snoek et al 2012), whereas Iturrate et al (2015) used a form of reinforcement learning (Sutton and Barto 1998).'
In section 4.3 on page 7, the sentence 'Sometimes the measurement ... particularly time-critical applications' should correctly read: 'Sometimes the measurement and data analysis might take longer than what is useful for a particularly time-critical application.'
Furthermore, a footnote was omitted clarifying that the definitions presented in this published paper supersede the working definitions presented earlier in the following paper:
