Abstract
Structural, mechanical and thermodynamical properties of close packed binary systems of discs with hard, elastic and Lennard-Jones potentials of interaction are considered. Using the method of molecular dynamics the transition from crystal melting to glass softening with increasing relative dispersity in disc size from 0 to 0.23 is investigated. A single particle mean-field model is proposed, which allows us to obtain straightforwardly the constitutive equation and shear modulus of the systems considered.
