Abstract
This paper describes a computer programme for solving the 3 or 4 coupled integro-differential equations satisfied by the radial wave functions of an electron scattered by a hydrogen atom in a 1s, 2s or 2p state. Strong coupling between these states is fully included, whereas all coupling with other states is neglected. The programme is satisfactory for obtaining the radial wave functions corresponding to low angular momenta, which are the most important at low incident electron energies. Solutions have been checked against earlier independent results with reasonable agreement. The full solutions are being used to obtain approximate cross sections for the six independent elastic and inelastic collisions connecting the 1s, 2s and 2p states. The results will be contained in forthcoming papers.
