Abstract
Approximate analytical solutions for the dynamical variation of a two-level system with a time-dependent pulse potential are introduced. These approximations are based on the replacement of the potential by a series of step functions and, in principle, can be as accurate as required. The method is extended to many-level transition problems such as those which arise in the theory of surface-ion neutralisation.
