Abstract
I must take issue with Sir Hermann Bondi and Mr C B Spurgin (Physics Bulletin February 1987 p62) over their dogmatic statements about mass and energy. My objection is most clearly to rules (ii) and (iii) in their final section, which say that energy is always conserved, and mass is always conserved, implying that there are two conservation laws.
