Abstract

The `moving electrode' method and fast oscillography have been used to obtain a value of 8 V±6% for the cathode fall in potential of mercury arcs at 10 A. With the known electrode speed the cathode fall space was estimated to be less than 5×10−4 mm. The results agree satisfactorily with theory.
