Abstract

A two-state atom in a perturber gas is irradiated by intense near-resonant radiation with an arbitrary spectral distribution. The author obtains an expression for the absorption spectrum of this system as measured by a weak probe field. The method is the same as applied before to derive the fluorescence spectrum of this system.
