Abstract

I read the article entitled 'The PhD thesis in physics' by Profs H Lipson and A C Rose-Innes in the September issue of Physics Bulletin with interest, but found it based on rather narrow premises. In recommending theses to be confined to around 50 pages, their chief concern seems to be to facilitate the work of the external examiner.
