Abstract

A linear velocity drive is described, constructed from readily available components, which has been found to produce a velocity continuously variable from 0.005 mm sec-1 to 2 mm sec-1 stabilized to within 1%. The accuracy of the velocity control is demonstrated by the results obtained for the measured linewidth of the 14.4 kev emission from a 57mFe Mössbauer source.
