Abstract
Measurements of the magnetic diffuse scattering of neutrons from a series of cobalt-nickel alloys indicate individual 3d moments at cobalt and nickel sites which have values not significantly different from those in the pure metals. There seems to be no simple relationship between the measured magnetic moments and the hyperfine fields at cobalt and nickel nuclei. A careful search for ordering effects in the alloys was made but it appears that randomness prevails independently of previous heat treatment, and suggestions in the literature of an ordered compound CoNi3 have not been confirmed.
