Abstract
New observations in the spectrum of P III have been made in the wave-length region 200-9 800 Å by using a sliding spark in vacuum. The term system now includes 58 complete terms, 36 of which are new and some more completed or resolved. It is based on about 640 spectrum lines, some 530 of which are newly classified. About 10% of the lines are intercombinations fixing the quartet and doublet systems relative to each other. The whole system has been recalculated on the basis of the new measurements. The energy of the lowest ionization limit has been deduced from a polarization formula applied to the nh2H series, giving the value 243 600.7±0.7 cm-1.
