Fluorescence Detection of Human Malignancies Using Incoherent Light Systems

Summary

Clinical studies for fluorescence guided tumor detection with 5-aminolevulinic acid induced protoporphyrin IX are currently carried out in various medical faculties. The first examinations were carried out almost exclusively with very complex and expensive laser based technology. These systems have now been replaced by compact, easy to use and cost-effective incoherent light systems. Results of clinical examinations in urology and neurosurgery are presented.
