Abstract

Feminist politics resides comfortably in centre-left politics. It is certainly more at home with us than it is on the right of politics. But its relationship with New Labour and the Liberal Democrats has evolved differently and it still poses a number of challenges to leftof- centre political traditions. A ‘progressive century’ worthy of the name must place at its core policies, practices and culture which enables equality across the sexes and which permits the centre-left to take and keep from the right the mantle of the political movement of the family.
