Abstract

The semi-contained space of dyke + queer BDSM, with its critically negotiated consent and experiences of alternative and exuberant intimacies, enabled interview partners to explore personal issues as well as social difference. Using this social space for exploration and experimentation was a recurring theme in all interviews. It will, therefore, be given special attention in the following three chapters. This chapter will situate the dyke + queer BDSM experience within the context of dangerous pleasures, of voluntary risk-taking. This sets the stage for exploring boundaries, vulnerabilities and bodies as boundary projects for my interview partners. Side effects included personal growth and healing, which can be transferred to other social realities beyond the semi-contained space of dyke + queer BDSM.
