Abstract

This chapter addresses the role of schools in youth violence prevention. It makes the case for positioning schools as a crucial partner in preventative efforts and briefly reviews existing school-based initiatives. The chapter suggests that a challenge for schools lies in engaging young people with the key messages emerging from the research literature, including the primary role of gender norms in producing conducive contexts for violence.
