Examining the Empirical Fit of the Typological Hierarchy

  • Chapter
The Rule of Law

Abstract

Since the rule of law research agenda is peppered with both conceptual disagreement and relatively poor measurement practices, it might seem premature to attempt to map empirical patterns in rule of law levels. That is, nonetheless, the purpose of Part III of this book. We set out to identify empirical patterns and developments, bearing in mind the disagreements and problems exposed in the previous chapters. More precisely, we attempt to chart how the empirical scores fit with the competing conceptualizations of the rule of law by employing the datasets best geared to examining this.
