Abstract
Robert Fabyan, a London merchant, wrote The Concordaunce of Hystoryes which chronicled the history of England and France from the alleged founding of Albion (Britain) by Brutus in the first century to the reign of King Henry VII. This book was published four times under various titles including The new chronicles of England and of France (1516) and Fabyans cronycle (1533). None of these editions contain the passage reproduced here, which was found in a manuscript authored by Fabyan and first published by Hakluyt. It indicates that fashion could be as powerful a marker of difference as skin color or language.
