Abstract
This book sets out to tell the often quite dramatic story of how, in the relatively short period of 50 years, the fortunes of people with learning difficulties changed quite dramatically. It is primarily a story of what happened in the United Kingdom (UK), though Part III of the book addresses developments in other parts of the Western world, highlighting significant convergences.
