Abstract

The Portuguese Socialist Party (Partido Socialista - PS) was refounded in a congress at Bad Munstereiffel between 16 and 19 April 1973. From the start the new party was supported by the Socialist International, in particular by the German Social Democratic Party. The history of the PS can be divided into three main parts: the pre-1974 period, the revolutionary 1974–5 period and the post-revolutionary period.
