Abstract

The first chapter described the arduous, excitingly original journey of Gandhi to a high level of religious commitment. We now step back in time to the very beginning of the South African period. In the first two years, Gandhi faced what could be called, if not a crisis of faith, then at least an agony of religious confusion. This chapter describes that crisis and how Gandhi worked his way through it towards religious certainties that would sustain him throughout his life.
