Abstract
I met Annamarie when she was a resident of the Lutheran Compass Center, where she was known as something of a hell-raiser. The staff at Lutheran Compass Center contacted Anna at my request. It had been several years since I’d last seen her or spoken with her when I sat down to interview her at her apartment in 1991, where signs posting rules governing the use of the phone provided evidence of Annamarie’s practice of providing shelter to friends who were still on the street.
