Younger Academics’ Expectations about Work and Future Employers

  • Chapter
Managing an Age-Diverse Workforce

Abstract

This chapter looks at expectations of younger people — specifically, graduates of the CEMS Master’s in International Management (MIM) program where students take their ‘home master’ and then add another year at one of the partner universities of the network — about work in general, the role of work in their lives and about future employers. Against the backdrop of different streams of literature looking at ‘typical’ expectations of different generations of graduates, the chapter not only outlines concrete empirical findings in this respect but also identifies broad emerging themes. In this way, it provides a potential contrast to the ageing workforce and its characteristics, the major focus of this collection, thus generating insights into similarities and differences between age groups.
