Structure of Higher Education System
Description
Higher education is provided by public universities as well as by various higher institutes, both public and private.
Stages of studies
University level first stage
Premier cycle
The first stage leads after three years’ study to the Licence.
University level second stage
Deuxième cycle
Two years of further study lead to the Master. The Ecole nationale de la Magistrature trains Magistrates in four years after the Baccalauréat and in two years for holders of the Licence in Law. The title of Ingénieur is awarded on completion of five years’ study.
University level third stage
Troisième cycle
Doctorates are awarded after a minimum of three years’ study and research after the Master. The Doctorat d’Etat in Medicine is awarded after six years’ study.
