Structure of Higher Education System
Description
In Canada, education is the responsibility of each province and territory. For specific information about each provincial and territorial education system, consult CICIC’s Web site at [http://education.cicic.ca] or the WHED profile of the province or territory of Canada. The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), is an intergovernmental body founded in 1967 by ministers of education and provides leadership in education at the pan-Canadian and international levels and contributes to the exercise of the exclusive jurisdiction of provinces and territories over education. CMEC is governed by the Agreed Memorandum approved by all members. All 13 provinces and territories are members. You will find the names of the ministries/departments responsible for education in the provinces and territories of Canada at [https://www.cicic.ca/1301/Ministries-Departments-responsible-for-education-in-Canada/index.canada].
