Abstract
Pakistan is faced with a challenging global and regional security environment in the attainment of its national goals in the twenty-first century covering external security, internal political stability, rapid economic progress, and preservation of its cultural identity. Pakistan must pursue these goals through a grand strategy that brings into a coherent whole its political, economic, diplomatic, and security policies. This task should be performed on the basis of a realistic assessment of the existing and emerging global and regional security environment, keeping in view the fundamental principles of strategy and grand strategy. Acceleration of economic progress, a low-risk foreign policy, strengthening of internal political stability, and innovative military strategies should be the essential elements of the proposed grand strategy.
