Abstract
This chapter analyses how women in Soviet Lithuania of different generations conformed to established Soviet rules, what behavioural models were adopted by members of older generations, whose primary socialisation had taken place during the pre-Soviet period, and by members of younger generations, whose primary socialisation took place in a range of Soviet political, economic, social and cultural contexts. It shows how the (non) conformity of different generations to changing contexts, according to David Riesman, is affected by traditions, the impact on behavioural models of family and exterior adaptors, and what determines obedience to interior or exterior adaptors.
