Development of catering management subject in dietitian education

Types of the dietitian education programs in Europe are therapeutic dietitian, administration dietitian and general dietitian.

The dietitian degree qualify dietitians for these duties in Hungary, too. The education of dietitians in the catering manager field started when the dietitian education was introduced at the higher educational level. This type of education gives chance to find a job in the different fields of public catering.

It has a special significance that dietitians are employed as catering managers in medical institutes where catering managers and therapeutic dietitians are in functional connection with each other and they assure the qualified service for patients.

The professional program of the catering managemenet education have been developed parallel with the higher education curriculum development. The section of the curriculum development are

1975–1982:

In the different stages of the development the number of the subjects adapted to the requirements of the economic enviroment grew increasingly. This can be seen in the continuously rising absolute number of classes and the topic of the subjects.

Since 2002/2003 academic Year we have had the credit system in the education. This education demands more development, which adapts to new trends in the connecting to EU, for example the market economy and the enterpreneurial skills economy in the health care. Our aim is to provide our students with a dietetians degree that is compatible to Europen standards.
