Abstract

The polyphenolics of twenty varieties of Mangifera indica were studied. This is the first report of the co-occurrence of the xanthones, mangiferin, isomangiferin and homomangiferin. Other phenolics identified are fisetin, quercetin, isoquercitrin, astragalin, gallic acid, methyl gallate, m-digallic acid, ellagic acid, β-glucogallin and a gallotannin. Mangiferin is the major component of the leaves and twigs, while the gallotannin is the major component of thé unripe fruits and seeds.
