ABSTRACT

Migraine headaches occur frequently in both preschool and school-aged children. Although some symptoms of migraines may change with age, they are typically characterized by severe headaches in an ill-appearing child associated with photophobia and nausea and are relieved by sleep. In late childhood and adolescence, the headaches of some patients will transform into a chronic daily headache or chronic migraine. Treatment consists of identifying environmental triggers, providing appropriate pain relief, and the judicious use of preventative medications.
