Abstract

The fixed oil of the seeds of three Egyptian Citrus fruits: Citrus sinensis L. (sweet orange) kinds Succari and Balady as well as C. reticulata Blanko (mandarin) was investigated; the fixed oil content of the seeds was found to be 42, 37.1 and 29 percent, respectively. The physical as well as chemical characteristics of the prepared fixed oils were reported. In addition, a Chromatographie study of the unsaponifiable fractions of these oils revealed the presence of B–sitosterol as the main sterolic component. Paper Chromatographie examination of the fatty acids of these oils detected the presence of palmitic, stearic and arachidic acids as the saturated fatty acids and linoleic, oleic and linolenic acids as the unsaturated acids.
