Abstract

Uricemia was examined with 46 cystinuria patients - homozygotes, and the values obtained were compared with a larger control set of 462 normal persons. Since uricemia is a function of weight and overweight, the values of persons of approximately the same characteristics were compared. Only with 12 patients (=26%) was the uricemia lower than the average of the control set. One cannot say that the higher uricemia of the cystinuria patients is due to lower glomerular filtration, which is unusually present as a result of chronic urolithiasis or pyelonephritis, and it is probably a phenomenon typical of cystinuria.
