Broadband, polarisation-independent intensity modulation based on a lithium niobate phase modulator in a fibre Sagnac interferometer configuration is demonstrated. Residual polarisation dependence is found to be as low as < 0.25 dB for low frequency operation, and < 2 dB to frequencies of > 20 GHz.
