Radio pagers commonly use resonant loop antennas but the strong magnetic field couples to components within the case reducing performance. The loss can be minimised by careful adjustment of the component layout and the author shows how impedance measurements may be used for the purpose. Impedance measurements of the antenna offer a very sensitive, reliable and convenient alternative to transmission measurements for optimising the circuit layout.
