A general form of the time–frequency distribution with complex-lag argument is proposed. It is based on the generalised complex-lag distribution, modified to provide an efficient instantaneous frequency estimation in the case of multicomponent signals. The form of proposed distribution is suitable for numerical realisation and it provides an arbitrarily high distribution concentration. The theory is illustrated by an example.
