An algorithm for decreasing the effect of film-grain noise in image compression is proposed. The algorithm operates in the transform domain in conjunction with quantisation. Although any orthogonal transform is suitable for this application, the orthogonal wavelet transform is preferred due to the simplicity in calculating the filter coefficients.
